Goldfish are one of the most popular pets in the world as Goldfish tend to be a great first pet for kids when growing up to take care of. Goldfish also referred to as comets are popular mostly due to the bright reddish coloration. With proper goldfish care they are excellent in ponds or aquariums. Goldfish or comets are also very extremely hardy, one of the most hardiness fish out there, they pretty much take care of themselves. Goldfish can survive in some of the most undesirable water conditions and will eat just about anything.
Goldfish were actually one of the first aquatic animals kept to take care of as pets in history. Goldfish originated in China where they are grown everywhere on fish farms. They were very much adored due to their bright colours and due to the fact they were very easily maintained. Goldfish or comets another name for them have been around for centuries. Goldfish have been mentioned in Chinese literature as far back as the 7Th century. In China, goldfish were part of their history and lively hood now as they grow these fish on their farms. History has it that way back then they were kept in small bowls and pools just like today. In today's world things have greatly improved, now you can get goldfish bowls, goldfish aquarium tanks and goldfish ponds. Goldfish live much like in luxury today with the sophisticated technology with pumps, filters, skimmers available in today's market.
Goldfish were actually originated in China from but as you can see today at pets stores all across the world, there are all sorts of goldfish breeds to choose from. Goldfish have actually been put through a selective breeding process in order to see the great types of goldfish breeds today. It was actually several hundred years ago that the Japanese started this breeding process to develop all the excellent color variations that you see in goldfish throughout the world. Through the breeding of goldfish, they were able to develop goldfish with white and red coloration, multi colored, some goldfish have big eyes, some goldfish have small eyes, some have long flowing tails, some goldfish have short. Some goldfish body shapes are quite different as well, some goldfish have no dorsal fin.
I wanted to give you a quick look at where GOLDFISH came from and a quick history on how long goldfish have been around. I will later talk more about goldfish breeding, goldfish bowls, goldfish tanks and ponds for goldfish. Taking care of goldfish is very important and I will discuss all aspects of taking care of goldfish and keeping goldfish healthy. Goldfish are a great beginner pet for kids. It's a great way to teach kids responsibilities as they take care of and tend to their goldfish. The goldfish won't have any complaints when he's fed :) one of the most enjoying parts of the hobby is taking care of goldfish and seeing them grow.

Your very welcome.
I want to help and share my knowledge with people who get into the aquarium hobby or goldfish pond as well. I've been involved in this hobby for over 10 years now and I also started up Country Koi Fish Farm as well. So if people have any questions or concerns I urge each and everyone to leave comments or suggestions on topics you would like to know more about.
Look forward to helping each and everyone with their goldfish care information.
Sincerely,
Jamie Boyle
Thanks for visiting my blog. What did you think of last nights episode of the office? I own a koi pond myself and was told that i could not add any new koi to the pond because of bacterial conflicts. Is that true? If so what kinds of fish can i introduce to the pond thanks
Hi Matthewh,
To be honest I haven't had much time to watch anything on TV in the last week.
Koi are the most common and favourite fish to add to a garden pond. I'm not really sure why they told you that you cannot add any more koi to your existing pond. You can add other types of fish to your pond as well like goldfish, comets, sarassa comets, shubunkins or fancy fantails as well. You can even add blackmoors too.
You definitely can add more koi to your pond, you just have to make sure that you quarantine your new arrivals to make sure you don't introduce any goldfish diseases to your pond and infect your other koi.
My suggestion to you if you have a small aquarium put your new fish in there for about a week and observe them for any signs of sickness or illness. Once your sure their koi health is good then introduce them to your pond. The only other thing I can mention is don't overstock your garden pond as can cause a ton of different problems.
Any other questions please feel free to ask.
Sincerely,
Jamie Boyle
