Maintenance and proper care is the best way to prevent your fish from becoming sick. Make sure you keep up with it or your fish may suffer because of it.

Nothing about medication and treatment, but I have had good luck with my current gold fish now for about 3 years, and I have a black moore. I have one question though. I bought him when I first got the tank and it is my oldest and biggest fish. My problem is that it isn’t black anymore and slowly went from black to the typical orange. Is this normal with age? What causes this?

Thanks,
James R.

Yes seeing black mooors change in colour is completely normal. What happens with age their pure black colour can basically fade or become orange metallic in colour. This can happen due to genetics. For example in koi they only show their true colours at 2 years of age. So the same can be for blackmoors as well. How they were bred, the parents that were chosen, the water quality etc.. all play a part. I know I find the smaller black moors are the darker or jet black they are. I find as they grow under the belly region is where it fades to a orange metallic colour. I know people can try and feed their goldfish colour enhancing food to help presrve thier bright colours, that may help. Other times they can change to an orange colour completely. Gentics play a major part for example to develop purebred koi kohakus, breeding needs to be done right in order to get the proper colouration.

Most people often like to see their blackmoors stay black but you might like the uniqueness that your fish brings. Regardless this is normal and certain colour enhancing foods that contain certain additives can help with colouration of owners goldfish.

How large is your black moor? Is it all orange now?

Hi, Please can you help me I amv ery worried about my coldwater fish, 8 in total, 1 blackmoor which I think has 'ICH', white patches on his side. 2 x goldfish, 2 x red & white comets, one of these picks on the other fish,he terrorises the fantail & the Veil tail, do I take him out. Also 1 yellow comet.

The orange fantail, 1 goldy and the yellow comet have tatty & bloody tails, is this fin & tail rot.

I am an amature, back last year I started with A 14LITRE Tank, everything was fine.

just before xmas I got a 95 litre tank, set it up left it a couple of wks as instructed, tested the water, perfect said the aquarium shop, then put in 4original fish waited 2 weeks as instructed again and put in some new fish, waited a 2 weeks before doing a water change again as per instructions, now in the last week things seem to be going wrong and fish have problem, i don't want to hurt them im very worried what do you recommend me to use to help them, can I use a product for both problems at the same time if so which one please help.
thank you
Wisebrook

Hi Wisebrook,

You seem to be having several fish diseases all at the same time. You have ich, fin and tail rot and bloody streaks on fins.

For treatment you will need to use
Kordon Aquarium Rid Ich Preventative to treat ich. It should treat fin and tail rot as well if it doesn’t you will then need to use Mardel Maracyn-Two. Maracyn-Two is recommended for the treatment of Popeye, gill disease, fin rot and tail rot, dropsy (swollen body, protruding scales), Septicemia (bleeding or red streaks on body), secondary and internal infections. All suspected bacterial infections should be treated immediately.

These two fish medications above should to the trick. What I will mention again is to check your water quality as goldfish diseases, bacterial infections and parasites are usually brought on by poor water quality. Make sure you test your water quality to make sure.

You can Shop at PetSmart.com for fish medications and other pet supplies shipped right to your door. They’ have some great prices on fish medications to and carry Kordon Aquarium Rid Ich Preventative and Mardel Maracyn-Two as well.

If you need anymore help please feel free to contact me anytime. I hope your goldfish get better soon.

Sincerely,

hi my gold fish has a scar and also gone tilted and not swiming .Please suggest.

Hi. I treated my two goldfish with methylene blue (because I thought one of them had a fungus on the mouth–it looked like it was fusing shut), and the one who was healthiest is now suffering from bad fin and tail rot. I don't believe it actually has "the rot", but I used this to mean that the fin and tail are shredded in appearance. Obviously, he can't swim well. Now, he just rests at the bottom of the tank. Also, his lower half of the body is discolored (now its whitish). What happened? Could the methylene blue have caused this? What did I do wrong? Thanks for your help.

I purchased two butterfly koi 3" from a water garden and now two weeks later, fish are dying and laying on the bottom of pond. I've tried to purchase prazi but no one local has it, and I'm desperate. So I went back to the same place I bought the two fish and they sold me jungle pond parasite cure. Well it's got trichlorfon in it and it's killed four fish this morning, which were baby goldfish. The big koi 11 of them have red on them and so do the goldfish. No signs of ich or any visible parasites. The gold fish are separated from the koi, one on one end of pond and the other on the other end. It's not looking good. None of the pet stores carry prazi and petsmart doesnt have size big enough to treat 2100 gal pond. Water is crystal clear, no ammonia, no nitrate, nitrite, ph is good. Water is fine, it was those two little fish of which I can't find one of them, it must be sick hiding somewhere. Any help would be appreciated, thanks Bob H

Hi I have around 30 goldfishes "comets" and the pond is 3m x 4m x 35cm and my fish keeps dying. I think it is Dropsy but I don't know exactly. So how can I treat this problem? In the internet says to use salt but I don't know.

Hi there. My blackmoor that i've now put in a hospital tank on his own has a strange white protrusion coming out his side. It almost looks like a pebble is caught under there. Thought maybe anchor worm but can't see any evidence of it. Fish is eating but lethargic and clearly struggling. Had some fungus on tail also but treating with a multi cure that seems to have solved that. Suggestions? I'm not sure what to do.
